2. PURPOSE OF THIS METHOD STATEMENT

This Method Statement sets out the safe system of work adopted by Alpha Cleaning Services Ltd for the delivery of cleaning services in commercial, communal, charitable and supported-living environments. It details:
  • The sequence of operations and identified hazards.
  • Staff competence, supervision, and Health & Safety arrangements.
  • Emergency response, COSHH, and quality monitoring.
This document must be read in conjunction with Site-specific Risk Assessments and COSHH Assessments.

3. SCOPE OF WORKS

Environments: Offices, communal areas (corridors/stairwells), hostels, churches, community centres, kitchens, and void properties.
Activities:
  • Routine daily/weekly cleaning and deep cleaning.
  • High-touch surface disinfection and infection prevention.
  • Waste management and spill response.

4. MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY & SUPERVISION

4.1 Employer Responsibilities: ACS Ltd will provide safe systems, trained staff, appropriate PPE, and monitor safety performance.
4.2 Supervisory Arrangements: A named supervisor is allocated to each contract for site inductions, routine inspections, and performance reviews. ⸻

5. STAFF COMPETENCE & TRAINING

All operatives receive training in Health & Safety, COSHH, Manual Handling, Infection Control, Lone Working, and Safeguarding. Records are maintained and available upon request. ⸻

6. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

Mandatory PPE includes chemical-resistant gloves, slip-resistant footwear, and eye/respiratory protection where required. PPE is provided free of charge and replaced immediately if damaged. ⸻

7. EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS

We use commercial vacuums, colour-coded mops and buckets (to prevent cross-contamination), microfibre cloths, and “Wet Floor” signage. All products are COSHH-approved. ⸻

8. COSHH (CONTROL OF SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH)

  • Staff trained on dilution rates and safe handling.
  • No mixing of chemicals or decanting into unlabelled containers.
  • Immediate access to water for eye/skin rinsing in emergencies.

  • Slips & Trips: Use of warning signs; cleaning in sections.
  • Manual Handling: Use of trolleys; avoid overloading bags.
  • Lone Working: Mobile phones provided; check-in/out procedures.
  • Biological Hazards: PPE worn at all times; safe waste disposal.

10. SAFEGUARDING & CONDUCT

Staff respect service users’ privacy, maintain confidentiality, and report any safeguarding concerns immediately to management. No unauthorised photography is permitted. ⸻

11. SEQUENCE OF WORK (SAFE SYSTEM OF WORK)

  1. Pre-Start: Supervisor attendance, PPE check, and risk assessment review.
  2. Site Set-Up: Sign in, place warning signage, and prepare materials.
  3. Cleaning: Dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitising toilets/kitchens.
  4. Waste: Removal in sealed bags to designated areas.
  5. Inspection: Visual check by supervisor to rectify issues.
  6. Completion: Store equipment safely, remove signage once dry, and sign out.

12. QUALITY ASSURANCE & MONITORING

Regular audits, client feedback reviews, and visit checklists ensure service standards remain high and consistent. ⸻
