1. Purpose
This policy ensures safe use, handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances in compliance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH).

2. Identifying Hazardous Substances
ACS Ltd uses cleaning products that may contain:
• Detergents
• Disinfectants
• Descalers
• Degreasers
• Specialist chemicals (where required)
Only approved products are used.
Alpha Cleaning Services Ltd operates a strict no-bleach policy due to:
• Health risks to staff, pupils, tenants and pets
• Corrosive damage to surfaces, flooring, marble, stone, sealants and appliances
• Strong fumes and respiratory irritation
• Environmental harm
Bleach or bleach-containing products are NOT used by ACS Ltd as part of our standard cleaning methods.
If a client specifically requests bleach to be used, we will only proceed if:
A written Bleach Use Waiver is signed confirming the client understands the risks and accepts liability for:
• Damage to surfaces or décor
• Discolouration or corrosion
• Fume-related complaints or sensitivities
• Health impacts and additional PPE requirementsACS Ltd has reviewed the request under COSHH and confirmed safe handling procedures.
A site-specific risk assessment is completed before use.
Bleach requests will never be approved in:
• Schools
• Nurseries
• Healthcare settings
• Environments with vulnerable adults or respiratory sensitivities
• Properties with marble or high-value finishes

3. COSHH Risk Assessments
We complete assessments for all chemicals, outlining:
• Hazards
• Exposure risks
• PPE requirements
• Safe use procedures
• First aid actions
• Disposal procedures

4. Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
SDS are:
• Supplied by manufacturers
• Stored centrally and on-site
• Provided to clients upon request

5. Safe Storage
Chemicals are stored:
• In locked cupboards
• Away from heat
• In original containers
• Out of reach of children/pupils

6. PPE for Chemical Use
Staff must use:
• Gloves
• Aprons
• Masks (where required)
• Eye protection (where required)

7. Dilution & Use
• Follow manufacturer instructions
• Use labelled spray bottles only
• Never mix chemicals

8. Spill Response
Minor spills: clean immediately
Major spills: isolate area, notify supervisor, follow SDS

9. Disposal
Chemicals and containers must be disposed of in line with SDS and environmental rules.

All staff receive COSHH induction and annual refreshers.
